Capriccio XXIV

Hwa Chong Institution held its annual midyear concert, Capriccio, at the Victoria Concert Hall today. Just as the name of the concert suggests, the music by the band was indeed grotesque, playful and fantastic.

I was seated at a rather odd location for photography, but I guess I managed to snap a few shots just [...]

Balek Kampong – Surau Kampong Lorong Buangkok

Singapore has always been well known as the urban jungle, but little known to others, kampongs still exist. Surau Kampong Lorong Buangkok is the last kampong around, housing a total of 20 families.

World of De-saturation

You’ve seen all my nicely saturated photographs time and time again, but here’s something new for a start. Photographs that I made myself, by hand.

Hwa Chong Dance Nite 08

I attended a dance concert last night in support of my good old friend Ezra. The audience was wowed by extremely precise lighting controls and eye-catching dance moves. Notice that I mentioned cool lighting. I’m serious! Anyway, the main purpose was to support and also observe the standard of Hwa Chong’s Dance CCAs. I was [...]

On the beaten tracks

Where were you when I needed you?
I made a random trip to Sunset Way yesterday, and made some really odd-looking photographs for a change. Was accompanied by Magdalene, Jos, Xin Ting, Yu Qian and Charlene.

My first test strip

Oh that’s my first test strip from photojournalism class. The strip is divided into three portions, each exposed to a different amount of light. From left, a 30sec, 20sec, 10sec exposure.
I used the photographic enlarger, a machine used to create prints on photographic paper, to make the above print. (I do hope to get [...]

Heavily Burdened

Good ideas alter the power balance in relationships, that is why good ideas are always initially resisted. Good ideas come with a heavy burden. Which is why so few people have them. So few people can handle it.

Tea Chapter

I dropped by a Chinese teashop near Maxwell Food Centre today and caught up with some secondary twos from Nan Hua. They were having their tea appreciation class there as part of their Appreciating Chinese Culture subject.

Shadow of a Tree

Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.

Incomplete Failure

Film doesnt like me. Well at least not for today.

Things screwed up for a very important recorded video today, and even my very first roll of film. The first roll of film screwed because I rewound the canister with too much force. Nevertheless, I’ve learnt my lesson – the not so hard way.

Fe2 @ ECP

It wasn’t a chemical spill at East Coast Park. Instead, it was something that needed learning. Something metallic yet powerful. It was the Nikon FE2. XJ and I took turns to have a go at the film SLR, using the Kodak Professional T-Max 100 Black and White Negative Film.
As such, you won’t be seeing [...]
